About
Tourmaline is a crystalline boron silicate mineral compounded with elements such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. It is classified as a semi-precious stone and the gemstone comes in a wide variety of colors. The term “tura mali” is from Sri Lanka (Ceylon), which translates to “stone of mixed colors”.
Paraíba Tourmaline is the only form of tourmaline that also contains copper, which is what contributes to the brilliant color and neon glow. Heitor Barbosa is responsible for finding this brilliant gemstone in a small mountain range, in Paraíba, Brazil. Other than Brazil, Nigeria has some deposits as well, which is where this particular gemstone originates.
