About Sugilite
Sugilite (also known as lavulite), is a relatively rare pink to purple rock-forming mineral that is mostly translucent. It gets its attractive purple color from traces of manganese. It was named after a Japanese petrologist Ken-ichi Sugi, who first described it in 1944. Sugilite was officially classified as a rare gem in 1980. Since then, additional small deposits have been discovered, and it remains a rare gem.
